Upon arrival I met with the Incident Commander Chief Merritt. Chief Merritt stated that fire crews had arrived to the apartment complex that was involved with fire. I spoke to the initial fire attack crews who stated that the bulk of the fire was in the "B","C" comer area of the upstairs apartment. I also made contact with SLCSO detective Wentz who was assigned to this case. I notified the State Fire Marshal's Office who assigned detective Shaun Tyson to the case. I spoke to the owner Mrs. Rita Dexter who stated that she had evicted the occupant (Gary Dillard) of apartment "A" earlier in the day. Photos were taken at this time. SCENE DESCRIPTION: Two story apartment building made of CBS construction with a wood trussed roof and a covering of composite fiberglass shingles. The building was found lying in a East West plane with the front facing North. SCENE EXAMINATION: ne examinations began with my arrival on the fire scene. I observed wind out of the east and hot and dry ditions. Exterior examinations began with walking the perimeter of the fire scene searching for any unusual tainers of flame producing devices. I found none. Starting with side "A" of the structure and working in a :kwise motion I observed fire and smoke damage to side "A" with smoke staining to the soffit areas and fire cage to "A", "B" corner. Moving to side "B" I observed smoke and fire damage with the upstairs windows ig destroyed by fire. Side "C" of the structure revealed the most severe fire damage to the upstairs bedroom dow located on "B" "C" corner, with it being completely destroyed by fire. Side "D" elevation revealed slight ike damage to the eves. Interior examinations began with starting at the least fire damaged areas and working ards the most severe fire damaged areas. This led me to apartment A upstairs bedroom area of the structure. n patterns observed in this area point to this as being the area of fire origin. Further layering of the bedroom i reveled burn patterns that point to the origin as the bedroom floor area . Detective Tyson collected samples analysis of the use of accelerants. I photographed the main service meter box which shows no electrical rice to apartment A. CONCLUSION: d upon the examination of the scene, the information available at this time, it is of my opinion that the is fire is undetermined. The origin of the fire will be the upstairs bedroom. On scene of a two story apartment wilding containing four units, we found smoke corning from the eves on sides A,B,C,D and lames on the BC comer of the second floor. The building was evacuated. A 1"3/4 hose line as pulled and advanced inside to the second floor, and the fire was extinguished. Fire nvestigator LT Ricky Williams was on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
