Post these safety tips where they will be a constant reminder to your lift operator.
For Information specific to the lift, always refer to the lift manufacturerls manual.
1. Inspect your lift daily. Never operate if it malfunctions or if it has broken or damaged parts. Repairs should
be made with original equipment parts.
2.. Operating controls are designed to close when released. Do not block open or override them.
3. Never overload your lift. Manufacturer's rated capacity is shown on nameplate affixed to the lift.
4. Positioning of vehicle and operation of the lift should be done only by trained and authorized personnel.
5. Never raise vehicle with anyone inside it. Customers or bystanders should not be in the lift area during
operation.
6. Always keep lift area free of obstructions, grease, oil, trash and other debris.
7. Before driving vehicle over lift, position arms and supports to provide unobstructed clearance. Do not hit or
run over lift arms, adapters, or axle supports. This could damage lift or vehicle.
6.. Load vehicle on lift carefully. Position lift supports to contact at the vehicle manufacturer's recommended
lifting points. Raise lift until supports contact vehicle. Check supports for secure contact with vehicle.
Raise lift to desired working height. CAUTION: If you are working under vehicle, lift should be raised high
enough for locking device to be engaged.
9. Note that with some vehicles, the removal (or installation) of components may cause a critical shift in the
center of gravity, and result in raised vehicle instability. Refer to the vehicle manufacturer's service manual
for recommended procedures when vehicle components are removed.
10. Before lowering lift, be sure tool trays, stands, etc. are removed from under vehicle. Release locking
devices before attempting to lower lift.
11. Before removing vehicle from lift area, position lift arms and supports to provide an unobstructed exit
(See Item #7).

;'` IMOR7ATIT NOTE"'
A 'level' floor is suggested for a proper installation site and will ensure level lifting. Small differ-
ences in floor slopes may be compensated for by proper shimming. Any major slope changes
will affect the low profile height of the lifting pads and/.or the units level -lifting performance. If a
floor is of questionable slope, consider a survey of the sight and/or possibly of pouring a new
level concrete slab section. Simply stated, for optimum level lifting, the equipment, at best, can
lift only as level as the floor on which it is located... and should not be expected to compensate
for drastic floor slope difference.
The equipment described in this manual could be potentially dangerous if improperly or care-
lessly operated. For the protection of all persons and equipment, only competently trained oper-
ators who are critically aware of the proper operating procedures, potential dangers, and spe-
cific application of this equipment should be allowed to touch the controls at any time.
Safe operation of this equipment is dependent on use in compliance with the operation proce-
dures outlined in this manual along with the maintenance and inspection procedures with con-
sideration of prevailing conditions.
The equipment described in this manual is neither designed nor intended for any application
alone or in conjunction with any other equipment that involves the lifting or moving of persons.
DO NOT install this unit on any asphalt surface
DO NOT install this unit on any surface other than concrete conforming to the minimum speci-
fication stated in the general floor requirements. (See page 5 of this manual).
DO NOT install this unit on expansion seams or on cracked, defective concrete, check with
building architect.
DO NOT install this unit on a second floor with a basement beneath without written authoriza-
tion from the building architect.

BEFORE INSTALLING A LIFT
Before installing a Bend -Pak Hoist there are a few items that should be verified. Each repair shop bay is different
and in an attempt to prevent oversights in this area, all of the following information should be checked.
1. OVERHEAD OBSTRUCTIONS: The area in which the lift will be located should have no overhead
obstructions. Heaters, building supports, electrical conduit, etc.
2. DEFECTIVE CONCRETE: Visually look over the bay floor area The lift can not be installed on expansion
seams, or concrete that appears to be cracked. The lift is only as strong as the floor it Is installed on.
3. TEST DRILL THE FLOOR: Test drilling the floor will give the installer a good idea of how deep the concrete
is in each bay. It is a good idea to test drill each bay when more than one lift is being installed in a shop.
4. FLOOR REQUIREMENTS: This information is found on page 5.
5. POWER SUPPLY: The standard Bend -Pak power unit is 220 vac single phase. The power supply should be
available prior to installation. It is advisable to have a licensed electrician do all electrical wiring.
5. BAY SIZE: Bend -Pak manufactures a number of above ground hydraulic lifts. All of which are designed to
serve individual shop needs. The overall width of each lift will vary. (refer to section II) Additional information
regarding the bay size can be obtained from Bend -Pak or your local Bend -Pak distributor.

DETERMINING LIFT LOCATION
Determine the lift location by following the procedures outlined below:
1. THE LIFT MUST BE MOUNTED ON CONCRETE ONLY, WITH A MINIMUM
THICKNESS OF 4", 3000 PSI STEEL REINFORCED, 28 DAY MINIMUM CURE.
2. Check location for possible obstructions such as low ceiling, overhead lines, working
area, access ways, exits, etc.
3. Allow adequate space in front and behind lift to accommodate all vehicles (approximately
12 ft. from center line each way). This will allow approximately 3 ft. of walkway in front
of the vehicle.
Moo pR•- - PR'9#W—
NOTE:
This Is a suggested layout only.
Certain allowances should be made for special vehicle requirements or unusual floorplans.

t
OVERALL LAYOUT
1. Using the overall width (A) as a guideline, chalk two parallel lines (#1 and #2) on the
concrete floor within 1/8 inch tolerance.
2. Determine the location of the power side post on either chalk line and mark the base plate
dimension overall width (B). Point 3 and 4.
3. From point number 3, chalk a diagonal line (C). This forms a triangle to insure that you
have perpendicular lines to set the posts square to each other.
NOTE Be sure to stay within a 114 inch overall tolerance. This will eliminate any d0culty
in final assembly or possible premature chain wear or misalignment.
