Market St. York, PA 17403 Alan Hoying, Manager -Code and Regulatory Ply Gem Siding Group 2405 Campbell Road Sidney, Ohio 45365 RE: Contractor's Choice Vinyl Siding, FBC 2010-revised Dear Mr. Hoying; Fax 717-846.0355 22 March 2012 The following Ply Gem/ Variform vinyl siding product; Contractor's Choice has been tested and analyzed in conformance with ASTM D 3679-06a as required by Florida Building Code 2010, paragraphs 1404.9 and 1405.14; plus Florida Residential Code 2010, paragraph 703.11. Contractor's Choice vinyl siding is produced in 4 configurations; Double 5", Double 4.5" Dutch Lap, Triple 3", and Double 4'; all with a nominal thickness of 0.040". This product has a standard single thickness nail hem. Structural testing to ASTM D .5206, as required by ASTM D 3679, was done at Architectural Testing Inc.'s main laboratory located at 130 Deny Court, York, PA 11402 and is reported in A4034.01-109-40 ( test date-09/22/10). The material (physical) properties testing as required in ASTM D3679 was done at Architectural Testing, Inc.'s main laboratory located at 130 Deny Court, York, PA 17402 as reported in project A5540.01-103-77 (test date-06/22/11). Required testing to ASTM D3679 was performed and evaluated in ICC ES report ESR-1565. I have performed a combination of rational and comparative analyses on this product, which includes the mandatory requirements of Annex A1.2.1 in ASTM D 3679. Installation must be over 5/8" minimum nailable sheathing or Y2" minimum plywood. Installation fasteners must be roofing nails with 3/8" diameter head, 1/8",diameter shank, and a minimum length of 1-1/2". The allowable design wind pressures for Double 5" are +/-78.6 psf for 16" stud spacing. The allowable design wind pressures for Double 4.5" Dutch Lap and triple 3" are +/-87.3 psf for 16" stud spacing. The allowable design wind pressures for Double 4" are +/-98.2 psf for 16" stud spacing. In order to achieve these pressures, all studs must have nails in them and all nails must be in studs. Contractor's Choice Page 2 The above values can be compared directly to the required wind loads in Chapter 16 of the Florida Building Code. If there are any questions about this, please contact me.
