SPALL REPAIR NOTES
1. DETAILS ARE APPLICABLE TO ALL ORIENTATIONS.
2. REPAIR AREA TO BE SAWCUT I" AROUND PERIMETER. SAWCUT LINE SHALL BE OUTSIDE OF
DELETERIOUS CONCRETE BY 1/2" MINIMUM. PERIMETER TO BE BASICALLY RECTANGULAR AND
KEPT AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE.
3. SAWCUTS CORNERS SHALL BE RIGHT ANGLE CUTS WITH NO FEATHER EDGING.
4. EXISTING REBAR SHALL BE CLEANED OF ALL CORROSION BYPRODUCT, SCALE, OIL, DIRT, ETC.
PRIOR TO PLACING THE PATCH MATERIAL. SPLICE BAR SHALL BE USED WHEN: (1) EXISTING
REBAR HAS LESS THAN THE REMAINING DIAMETER SHOWN IN THE BELOW TABLE FOR 1' OR
MORE (COLUMN A); AND/OR (2) EXISTING REBAR HAS LESS THAN THE REMAINING DIAMETER
SHOWN IN THE BELOW TABLE IN A CONCENTRATED AREA (COLUMN B). LENGTH OF SPLICE BAR
SHALL EXTEND A MINIMUM OF ONE LAP LENGTH (SHOWN ON THIS SHEET) BEYOND THE POINT
OF 100%SECTION REMAINING AT EACH END OF THE DETERIORATED REBAR.
5. A SHALLOW SPALL REPAIR SHALL BE USED WHEN SOUND CONCRETE IS REACHED PRIOR TO
DEPTH PAST HALF THE DIAMETER OF THE TOP REINFORCEMENT LAYER, OR REMAINING REBAR
DIAMETER IS BEYOND THAT LISTED IN NOTE 4.
6. THE MAXIMUM DEPTH OF CONCRETE REMOVAL SHALL BE 6INCHES. IF SOUND CONCRETE IS
NOT REACHED AT 6 INCHES, THEN NOTIFY THE ENGINEER.
THE CONTRACTOR MAY PERFORM SPALL REPAIR ON BOTH SIDES OF THE WALL AT THE SAME TIME, BUT
DO NOT REMOVE CONCRETE ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE WALL THAT WOULD CAUSE THE M INIMUM
THICKNESS OF REMAINING CONCRETE TO BE 8INCHES OR LESS.
