Paul R. Dekker, 11295 SW Vanderbilt Circle, Port St. Lucie, FL addressed the
Board regarding the Bennington Village community. He talked about his
concern regarding the builder still being in control the villages. He explained
that he and his neighbors are concerned about the costs as it is tied to the
value of their properties. He asked if this is approved if it can be taken off
the tax bill?
The Assistant County Attorney responded regarding the cost and advised the
Board that under the current proposed millage, for a property assessed at
$150K, it would add $68.97 for the year to the tax bill. There’s nothing in
the special acts that would prohibit it from happening in the future if the
referendum was held it did not pass. This special act does not speak to a
process for removing properties from the district but it can be looked at.
Sandy Heckendorf, 11430 SW Hillcrest Circle, Port St. Lucie, FL, addressed
the Board in support of the resolution and talked about her concerns
regarding mosquitoes.
The Mosquito Control Director explained that the District is not allowed to
solicit to have people join the District but they try to be as helpful as possible
regarding the applications. He talked about some recent outbreaks and their
response to those issues in neighboring counties.
RESULT: ADOPTED [UNANIMOUS]
