Note: Allied Building Products Corp. requires tongue -and -groove board decking be covered with plywood
or OSB prior to installation of the self -adhering underlayment.
5.5.2 Wind Resistance for Underlayment Systems in Foam -On Tile Aoolications: FRSA/TRI 07320
does not address wind uplift resistance of all underlayment systems beneath foam -on tile
systems, where the underlayment forms part of the load -path. The following wind uplift
limitations apply to underlayment systems that are not addressed in FRSA/TRI 07320 and are
used in foam -on tile applications. Maximum Design Pressure is the result of testing for wind
load resistance based on allowable wind loads. Refer to FBC 1609.1.5 for determination of
design wind pressures.

6. INSTALLATION:
6.1 TRI-BUILT Roof Underlayments shall be Installed In accordance with Allied Building Products
Corp. / TRI-BUILT published installation requirements subject to the Limitations set forth in
Section 5 herein and the specifics noted below.
6.2 Re -fasten any loose decking panels, and check for protruding nail heads. Sweep the
substrate thoroughly to remove any dust and debris prior to application, and prime the
substrate (if applicable).
6.3 Tri-Built Granular-P Shingle Underlayment and Tri-Built Tile and Metal HT
Underlayment*
6.3.1 Shall be installed in compliance with the codified requirements for ASTM D1970
underlayment in FBC Sections 1507 for the type of prepared roof covering to be Installed.
6.3.2 For non -tile applications:
6.3.2.1 Back -nail selvage edge seams in accordance with the Allied Building Products Corp. / TRI-
BUILT Back -Nailing Guide. Nails shall be corrosion resistant, 11 gauge ring -shank type with
a minimum 1-Inch diameter metal disk or Simplex -type metal cap nail, at a minimum rate of
12' o.c. The head lap membrane Is to cover the area being back -nailed.
6.3.2.2 All seal -lap seams (selvage laps)
must be firmly rolled with a
minimum 28 lb. hand roller to
ensure full contact and adhesion.
For Trl-Built Tile and Metal HT
Underlayment, align the edge of the
top sheet to the end of the glue
pattern (the sheet will overlap the
fabric).
Seam;
Underlayment
6.3.2.3 Install to ensure full contact with approved substrates. Allied Building Products Corp. / TRI-
BUILT require a minimum of 40-lb weighted -roller or, on steep slopes, use of a stiff broom
with approximately 40-lbs of load applied for the field membrane. Hand rollers are
acceptable for rolling of patches, laps (min. 28 lb roller) or small areas of the roof that are
not accessible to a large roller or broom.
6.3.3 For tile applications (Tri-Built Tile and Metal HT Underlayment only):
6.3.3.1 Reference is made to Section 6.3.2 herein in conjunction with FRSA/TRI 07320/8-05
Installation Manual, Fourth Edition, and Table 2 herein, using the Instructions noted above as
a guideline.
6.4 Tri-Built Sand-R SA Shingle Underlayment:
6.4.1 Shall be installed in compliance with the requirements for ASTM D1970 underlayment in. FBC
Sections 1507 for the type of prepared roof covering to be Installed.
6.4.2 For non -tile applications:
6.4.2.1 While priming is optional, Allied Building Products Corp. recommends priming the deck if the
final roof cover is not slated for installation within 24 hours.
6.4.2.2 Apply sheet parallel to the roof edge. Roll out approximately 10 ft of membrane and peel
back the first 3 ft of release film.

6.4.2.3 Adhere the exposed part to the substrate and unroll the remaining membrane as far as
possible.
6.4.2.4 Once the entire length of membrane is in place, peel -off the release film diagonally while
holding the membrane tight. Firmly roll the membrane into place to achieve a bond.
6.4.2.5 Horizontal seams should be minimum 3-Inches, configured to shed water. Vertical seams
should be 6-Inches and staggered not less than 2-ft from vertical seams in the course below.
All over -granule end -laps shall be sealed using either heat -welding or hot air welding
techniques.
6.4.2.6 When Installing at slopes above 8.12, Allied Building Products Corp recommends back -nailing
In the overlap area at the top of the sheet at 12-Inch o.c.
6.4.2.7 For Valleys and Ridges: Cut underlayment Into 4 to 6 foot lengths. Peel the release paper
and center sheet over valley or ridge. Drape and press sheet Into place, working from the
center of the valley or ridge in each direction. For valleys, apply the sheet starting at the
lowest point and work upward.
