Background Information: Client is planning on removing and replacing the existing flat concrete tile roof system with a similar flat concrete tile roof system. Proiect Information: Mean Roof Height = 20' Length = 100' Width = 50' Parapet Wall: N/A Exposure: D Category: II Slope: 5/12 = 22.6° Residential The proposed new roof system is an Entegra concrete Plantation flat tile (Florida Product Approval FL7804-R7) attached with 3M 2-component foam roof tile adhesive AH-160 (2"x10", 45g) over a Polyglass self -adhering modified underlayment applied directly to the structural wood deck. The existing roof system consists of flat concrete roof tiles with similar dead load characteristics as the proposed roof system. Where addition or replacement of roofing or replacement of equipment results in additional dead loads, structural components supporting such reproofing or equipment shall comply with the vertical load requirements of the Florida Building Code. Exceptions: 1. Structural elements where the additional dead load from the roofing or equipment is not increased by more than 5 percent. 2. Buildings constructed in accordance with the Florida Building Code, Residential or the conventional construction methods of the Florida Building Code and where the additional dead load from the roofing or equipment is not increased by more than 5 percent. 3. Addition of a second layer of roof covering weighing 3 pounds per square foot (0.1437 Mtn) or less over an existing, single layer of roof covering shall be permitted. It is our professional opinion that the proposed re -roofing will NOT result in a roof dead load greater than 5% of the existing roof dead load (due to complete removal and replacement of the existing roof system down to the structural deck), therefore, the proposed re -roof is ACCEPTABLE based on meeting the conditions for exception #2 of the 2010 FBC Existing Building, Section 6, Structural, subsection 606.2.1.
