BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FLORIDA
REORGANIZATION MEETING

1. PROCLAMATIONS/PRESENTATIONS/ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. The County Administrator announced future meetings and events.
B. A presentation to Commissioner’s Barnes and Bruhn was made by
Chairperson Lewis.
C. The Clerk of Circuit Court administered the Oath of Office to Commissioner

Paula A. Lewis for her 3 term.
D. The Clerk of Circuit Court administered the Oath of Office to Joseph E. Smith
and Chris Craft.
2. GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENTS
Mayor Bob Benton, City of Ft. Pierce, conveyed his congratulations to newly elected
Commissioner Craft and Commissioner Smith. He also expressed his appreciation for
the support given by the two previous Commissioners, Barnes and Bruhn.
City Commissioner Alexander, welcomed the new Commissioners and expressed his
support in working with them in the future.
Mr. Samuel Gains, School Board member, pledged his support to the new Board and it’s
two new members.
Ms. Delores Hogan –Johnson, President of the Waterfront Council, congratulated the new
Commissioners and expressed her support in working with them in the future.
Mr. Charlie Frank Matthews, N.A.A.C.P. President, pledged his support to the entire
Board and congratulated the newly elected Commissioners.
Ms. Maxine Green, Saint Lucie County resident and member of the Concerned Citizens
Committee, welcomed the new Commissioners and stated she looked forward to working
with them on various issues concerning the community.
Ms. Janis McGriff, area resident, welcomed the new Board members.
Ms. Carol Hillson, St. Lucie County School Board Chairperson, congratulated the newly
elected Commissioners and pledged full support from the School Board.

Ms. Susie Caron, area resident, thanked Commissioners’ Bruhn and Barnes for all their
efforts in protecting her community from urban sprawl.
Ms. Arlene Goodman, White City resident, welcomed the newly elected Commissioners.
Mr. Herbert Beach, White City resident, welcomed the newly elected Commissioners and
commended a prior Commissioner ( seated in the audience), Havert Fenn, for all his
support to the White City area.
Gary Wilson, Sheriff’s office, welcomed the new Commissioners and expressed the
Sheriff’s Department’s support in working with the Board.
Mr. Asher, area resident, welcomed the new Commissioners.
3. RE-0RGANIZATION
A. ELECT THE CHAIRMAN
At this time the Clerk of Court presided and called for nominations for Chairman of the
Board of County Commissioners.
It was moved by Com. Coward, seconded by Com. Lewis, to nominate Com. Hutchinson
as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners; and upon roll call motion carried
unanimously.
B. ELECT VICE CHAIRMAN
The Chairman presided and called for nomination for Vice Chairman of the Board of
County Commissioners.
It was moved by Com. Lewis, seconded by Com. Craft, to nominate Com. Coward, as
Vice Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, and; upon roll call, motion
carried unanimously.
C. At this time the Board recessed in order to convene as the Mosquito Control
Board, the Erosion District and the Environmental Control Board for their re-
organization.

D. The Chairman automatically becomes a member unless designated differently:

E. The Chairman appointed the following Commissioner/s to serve on the

BOARD AT LARGE APPOINTMENTS
It was the consensus of the Board to defer these appointments for a future meeting in
order to advertise the vacancies.
It was moved by Com. Coward, seconded by Com. Craft, to advertise the Board at-Large
vacancies, and; upon roll call, motion carried unanimously.
There being no further business to be brought back to the Board, the meeting was
adjourned.
