LUCIE COUNTY CULTURAL AFFAIRS COUNCIL Art in Public Places Committee Meeting Tuesday, January 10, 2008 Interim Chairperson Jack Connolly called the meeting to order at 3:30 P.M. Members Present: Jack Connolly, T.A. Wyner, Jon Ward, Bill Ward, Gale Forrestor, Joe Holiday Members Absent: Kathleen Fredrick, Bob Hood, James Gibson, Coach Fenn, Bill Ward Staff Present: Jody Bonet, Suzanne Antonetti, John Hayes Guest: Mrs Joe Holiday Minutes No Minutes. The November 2007 and December 2007 meetings were cancelled. Several members visited Terry Thomas’s Studio in November. OLD BUSINESS : Proposed Annual Budget: Jody Bonet reported and handed out the approved AiPP budget for 2008. WoW 2 nd John Hayes gave a progress report on the exhibition. This is the 2 largest Art Exhibit in Florida after Key West’s commercial show. Nine pieces have been installed. An additional 14 will go in next week. There will be 2 pieces in Port St. Lucie (Morningside Library and the Community Center). There will be a catalog and map created of the exhibit. Show will run though August. th The exhibit opening will be the evening of April 4 at City Hall with a 1-day symposium at Fort Pierce City Hall Chambers, the Sunrise Theatre, and IRCC. There are currently 3 speakers committed and he is attempting to get 2 additional speakers. The Governor of Florida has been invited. Groups will be coming from other areas of Florida to see the show. John Hayes is hoping to have an article done by the Palm Beach Post. T.A. Wyner offered to have characters from the Historical Society available to give some history of the area during these tours. Press releases have been sent to local newspapers and 50 magazines. The committee again discussed the need for signage along the highways of the county. It was noted that the state magazine “Art In History” has been discontinued. NEW BUSINESS: AiPP Ordinance: Jody Bonet informed the committee that the AiPP Ordinance regarding art funds from FAA was removed per the county auditors. AiPP may place art at the airport, however, FAA grant monies and County Airport funds monies may not fund the AiPP project(s). Committee was given a copy of the new ordinance. Call To Artists: Jody Bonet presented the committee with the site plans for three new art sites. The following individuals are needed for each subcommittee listed below: 2 artists or art professionals 1 County/City Site Representative 1 Representative from the Public 1 Member of AiPP 1 Art in Public Places Committee Meeting Tuesday, January 10, 2008 Page 2 The Clerk of Courts: Jon Ward will chair this subcommittee. Indoor exhibit. The committee requested using hanging strips at this site to rotate exhibits effectively without damage to the building walls. An estimate of $2,000 for these strips may be needed. There is a $100,000 budget for this site. The Fort Pierce Parking Garage: Jon Ward will also chair this subcommittee. The site is large enough for a 24-foot sculpture but has 12-foot view. John Hayes suggested that the committee look at the WoW2 pieces as a possible purchase. The committee will still put out a call to artist for this site. There is an $85,000 budget for this site. Lawnwood Coach Fenn Building: Joe Holiday will chair this subcommittee. th Avenue D Art Site: 13 Street & Avenue D, Avenue D Resource Development Building The committee suggested Coach Fenn as chairperson for this subcommittee as he is chairman of Lincoln Park Main Street. T. A. Wyner asked to be on this committee. Jody Bonet and T.A. Wyner will be meeting with the Lincoln Park Main Street on January 30 and 31 and would get their reactions to WoW2. Call-For-Artist will take approximately 90 days. Each site will regard a separate call. This will include a photo(s) of the proposed site, the building, a short history of the city, history of the building (site). The committee is looking at disposition in April 2008. Drafts of the call to artist will be available at the next meeting. The meeting adjourned. Next regular meeting is scheduled for February 14, 2007 at 3:30 PM. 2
