OLD BUSINESS
:
Call-To-Artists
Jody Bonet stated that the call-to-artists has not been done and confirmed that Coach Fenn and T.A.
Wyner will co-chair the Avenue D project.
WoW 2
John Hayes provided the committee with a map of the exhibit and the complete installation will be done
tomorrow. There was a brief discussion with regards to the city and county website on the WoW2
exhibit. Both will cover the WoW2.
John Hayes outlined the Symposium: Opening the event on Friday April 4 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM
Fort Pierce City Hall. Asked everyone on the committee to be there. At 9:00 PM Jon Ward will have a
social hour at his home for the artist and speakers. On Saturday, April 5 at 9:00 AM there will be a
breakfast at Brewers for the panel speakers, artists, and committee members. At 10 AM is when the bus
tour will start. We need a count in the next few days to determine the number of buses needed by next
week. After the hour and a half tour on the buses, they will return to City Hall at approximately 11 AM.
From that time it will be a social hour with box lunches for $10. We will launch the Symposium at 1 PM
in Fort Pierce City Hall Chambers with Jon Ward as moderator. Bill Ward is assisting John Hayes with
question development. Some panelists will write their own questions based on their expertise and
specific pieces. There will be a break and wrap-up at 4:00 PM.
T.A. Wyner stated she would provide characters from the Historical Society. It was decided that they
would be at the lunch.
One of the artists suggested we have drumming and storytelling with the African-American pieces at
another time and that they would be willing to come down from Gainesville to participate. This relates
directly to the totem pieces. The pieces are at the Historical Museum. He reported on his experiences in
Gainesville as these artists completed their pieces. They have a wealth of history in Africa and there is
whole spiritual element in these sculptures as two of the artists are ordained ministers in Nigeria. He
asked the committee to present questions and there will be time for the public to ask questions. The
1
committee thanked John for his help. John Hayes informed the committee that each sculpture will have a
plaque.
The committee discussed the possibility of interacting and a tour with the Art & All that Jazz event in
Port St. Lucie. There was discussion regarding logistics and it was decided to do a separate event for Port
St. Lucie at another time.
NEW BUSINESS
Trolley Tour
Jody Bonet asked if the committee if the City might be interested in using the trolley after the Saturday
market to do tours as a possible fundraiser. T.A. Wyner reported that the cast will be going before the
city to thank them for the use of the trolley and suggest that they use the cast in the future in combination
of the trolley and to use the cast in combination with the sculptures and art tour. Jon Ward suggested that
nd
the committee consider a sculpture tour during the 2 Wednesday of the Month Art Walk. The
committee agreed.
Committee Members
:
Discussion regarding adding additional members to the AiPP committee, Jody Bonet promised to provide
an updated list. It was determined that the AiPP was complete, but there were vacancies at the CAC
board.
Call To Artists
Bill Ward outlined plans to create sub-committee members. He outlined how the process of the call for
artists works:
1) Call to Artists: Advertisements are placed in art magazines and local newspapers.
2) Artists must submit their resumes, slides and/or photos.
3) The sub-committee for each project chooses three artists.
4) The sub-committee choices are brought before the AiPP for approval.
5) Artists are notified they are in the top three and asked to submit their design solution, usually in 2
months. The artists create a maquette for which they are each paid $600.
6) Committee meets for a second time to choose one artist to be contracted to do the work.
7) The County Commissioners approve the final choice
8) Artists are notified of results
9) Contracts are sent out.
10) Contracts are returned and the first checks go out.
nd
11) Once the artists submit the photos of progress, the 2 checks go out.
12) Final payment is made once the piece is installed.
Bill Ward will be at each sub-committee meeting.
There was discussion regarding the Lincoln Park Main Street area. Elise Rollins and Gertrude Walkers
names were suggested to participate on these areas subcommittees. There was a suggestion that LPMS
have a tour or a slide show of all the WoW2 pieces currently available. It was suggested that the people
who were on the previous committees be invited to join first. Bill Ward suggested the committee put
together a list of people who might be interested and they get together. There was discussion with regards
to the need not to make mistakes in the art choices.
