RE: Enforcement of the Antenna-Outrigger Law
Dear Commander Kagarise:
The Fort Pierce Harbor Advisory Committee, appointed by the St. Lucie County Board of County
Commissioners, requested at their May meeting I write you requesting a stronger enforcement
of the antenna-outrigger law.
According to the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) Section 117.11, no vessel owner or
operator shall signal a drawbridge to open if the vertical clearance is sufficient to allow the
vessel, after all lowerable nonstructural vessel appurtenances that are not essential to
navigation have been lowered, to safely pass under the drawbridge in the closed position.
CFR Section 117.49 further states that complaints of alleged violations under this part are
submitted to the District Commander of the Coast Guard District in which the drawbridge is
located.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Should you have any questions, please feel free to
contact me at ~-1450.

Sincerely,
~
