Major Tighe asked Commissioner Craft if he was aware of the recent recommendation by the
Secretary of Corrections in Tampa last week. The Commissioner in the meeting in Tampa
recommended to stop the over crowding and DOC to sentence inmates to the county for 18
months. I asked Broderick to look at the sentences of people sentenced over 12 months and under
18 months to see what kind of impact that would be.
Lisa Savage reported on the Pretrial program. Up to 54 cases on GPS and 60 on Standard, had
about 400 cases go through our office last year. New bill signed off by the Governor that requires
us to do a certain amount of statistical tracking data. Statewide all Pretrial programs are
required to do that now. They have to be sent over to the Clerks office on a weekly basis and
available for review by the public or anybody who wishes to come in and request it. Pretrial will
be receiving a questionnaire from OPPEGA in a few weeks. Pretrial has a couple sentenced to the
program as a condition of probation and we did a proposal to Judge Roby and if something the
judges wish to consider we recommend that it be a condition to probation. We would deal with
strictly the monitoring and the compliance of the house arrest part that we would not get
involved with the collection restitution, court fees, drug treatment and all the different things the
probation office deals with. We would deal with our resource towards the GPS.
NEW BUSINESS:
Commissioner Craft said working on a letter that we want to send to the Florida Legislature to
help make them aware of our local budgets and how it affects the system in general. Mark is
working on that and when we get it done we want to make sure we have everyone who is on
PSCC sign the letter. We want to send it to everybody in our delegation.
Ken Mascara asked do you think the letter will help.
Commissioner Craft said No I don’t. I don’t know what else we can do other than all of us getting
in a bus and driving to Tallahassee. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways to help bring
awareness?
Becky Bleyman said recommend it to other PSCC across the state to do the same thing in their
county.
Commissioner Craft said we will copy them on the letter. I don’t know if the Association of Sheriff’s
if this is something they would get behind.
Ken Mascara said we are meeting behind closed doors this Monday and Tuesday.
Commissioner Craft said the meeting previously that we had before here Space Needs we
discussed trying to move forward with the secondary exit for the courthouse to help move jurors,
attorneys and public in and out of the courthouse more efficiently on heavy days. Looking at
putting another magnetometer at the front door so you would actually have 2 and then we
possibly be able to hire 2 part time Wackenhut in the morning to help get those people in

there. Anyone who is leaving the courthouse would exit through the new door that is down at
the west end of the courthouse. One Wackenhut would run the machine and one would run the
door to make sure no one is coming in.

Commissioner Craft adjourned the meeting at 3:50 p.m.
