HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 04-14-2010 ST LUCIE COUNTY PROPERTY AND HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION Minutes of April 14, 2010 Meeting Convened: 10 am Adjourned: 11.00 am The meeting of the Property & Homeowners Association was held Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in Conference Room 3 of the St. Lucie County Administration Annex, 2300 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce. Commissioner Dzadovsky led the Association in the Pledge of Allegiance. Self introductions were then made. ITEM #2 – APPROVAL OF MINUTES There were no minutes of the last meeting due to it being at a remote location. ITEM #3 – ST LUCIE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT Deputy Gonsalves informed the group about Seacoast National Bank’s Safety Day geared toward people th with hearing impairments on Saturday, April 17 at the PSL Community Center. He also talked about the Rape Aggression and Defense System self-defense class for seniors. The Sheriff’s Office will bring it to the communities if they have 10 to 15 people to attend. 871-5303 is the number to call to sign up. Crime wise, he said they are still seeing burglaries and crimes of opportunities. A member said that a helicopter was circling her neighborhood and that there were deputies shining their lights. She called the Sheriff’s Office but wasn’t given information. The police department eventually gave her in the information. She asked whether there was a reverse call service to let people know what was going on. Deputy Gonsalves said he tells people that when there are helicopters going around, to stay inside because you never know – but he said it would have been nice if the dispatcher had given her the information the first time around. He also said there is a Reverse 911 service but it takes time to set up the recording, and when there’s an immediate incident going on there isn’t time. It’s primarily used for sexual predators or lost adults and children. It’s also used for fires. He also said the Sheriff’s Department provides their helicopters to police departments when they need it. He said he didn’t want to second- guess the city police department. Another member asked Deputy Gonsalves about finding out whether a recent story in the newspaper regarding a neighbor was a convicted felon. Deputy Gonsalves said he would get back to him with the information. Commissioner Dzadovsky reminded all to be vigilant about health and safety, particularly now that the weather is nicer and we might have our doors, windows and garages open. Another member talked about pre-teens playing in their yards in camouflage outfits, and that the officer could have mistaken one of them for a criminal with a gun. Deputy Gonsalves said there’s a simulator at the Sheriff’s office that is similar to, but not exactly like, the one at the Public Safety Training Center. ITEM 4 – ST LUCIE COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT REPORT Catherine Chaney informed the members about a recent fire near Spanish Lakes, and informed them th about hot spots also causing hot spots. The second class of the Citizens Fire Academy begins on May 6 and meets every Thursday morning beginning at about 9:00 am. AT THIS POINT, THE RECORDING EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONED AND THE REST OF THE MEETING WAS NOT RECORDED. ITEM #5 GUEST SPEAKER – Hal Roberts, Harbor Federal Realty Mr. Roberts discussed TARP funds and current procedures with foreclosed properties. ITEM #6 OLD BUSINESS Commissioner asked if there was any old business to discuss. ITEM #7 NEW BUSINESS Commissioner Dzadovsky asked for requests for future meeting agendas. Mr. Hammer said he’d like to have a discussion about taxes and how neighborhood associations may be able to contribute to their local parks, etc., and said he would send possible topics of discussion.
