ITEM #1 – CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order. Commissioner Dzadovsky led the Association in the Pledge of
Allegiance. Self introductions were then made.
ITEM #2 – APPROVAL OF MINUTES
There were no minutes of the last meeting due to it being at a remote location.
ITEM #3 – ST LUCIE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT
Deputy Gonsalves informed the group about Seacoast National Bank’s Safety Day geared toward people
th
with hearing impairments on Saturday, April 17 at the PSL Community Center. He also talked about the
Rape Aggression and Defense System self-defense class for seniors. The Sheriff’s Office will bring it to
the communities if they have 10 to 15 people to attend. 871-5303 is the number to call to sign up.
Crime wise, he said they are still seeing burglaries and crimes of opportunities.
A member said that a helicopter was circling her neighborhood and that there were deputies shining
their lights. She called the Sheriff’s Office but wasn’t given information. The police department
eventually gave her in the information. She asked whether there was a reverse call service to let people
know what was going on.
Deputy Gonsalves said he tells people that when there are helicopters going around, to stay inside
because you never know – but he said it would have been nice if the dispatcher had given her the
information the first time around. He also said there is a Reverse 911 service but it takes time to set up
the recording, and when there’s an immediate incident going on there isn’t time. It’s primarily used for
sexual predators or lost adults and children. It’s also used for fires. He also said the Sheriff’s Department
provides their helicopters to police departments when they need it. He said he didn’t want to second-
guess the city police department.
Another member asked Deputy Gonsalves about finding out whether a recent story in the newspaper
regarding a neighbor was a convicted felon. Deputy Gonsalves said he would get back to him with the
information.
Commissioner Dzadovsky reminded all to be vigilant about health and safety, particularly now that the
weather is nicer and we might have our doors, windows and garages open.
Another member talked about pre-teens playing in their yards in camouflage outfits, and that the officer
could have mistaken one of them for a criminal with a gun.
Deputy Gonsalves said there’s a simulator at the Sheriff’s office that is similar to, but not exactly like, the
one at the Public Safety Training Center.
ITEM 4 – ST LUCIE COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT REPORT
Catherine Chaney informed the members about a recent fire near Spanish Lakes, and informed them
th
about hot spots also causing hot spots. The second class of the Citizens Fire Academy begins on May 6
and meets every Thursday morning beginning at about 9:00 am.
AT THIS POINT, THE RECORDING EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONED AND THE REST OF THE MEETING WAS
NOT RECORDED.
ITEM #5 GUEST SPEAKER – Hal Roberts, Harbor Federal Realty
Mr. Roberts discussed TARP funds and current procedures with foreclosed properties.
ITEM #6 OLD BUSINESS
Commissioner asked if there was any old business to discuss.
ITEM #7 NEW BUSINESS
Commissioner Dzadovsky asked for requests for future meeting agendas. Mr. Hammer said he’d like to
have a discussion about taxes and how neighborhood associations may be able to contribute to their
local parks, etc., and said he would send possible topics of discussion.
The meeting was then adjourned.
Respectfully submitted by Terri Ann Palumbo, Executive Aide to Commissioner Dzadovsky
