expecting soon the check from the City of Fort Pierce ($45,000) for 50% of the artist’s fee for the
Avenue D sculpture.
Parking Garage Sculpture
Jon Ward stated the sub-committee for this project met to review the submissions from the three
finalists (Susan Gott, Michael McLaughlin and Patrick Cochran). He brought one of the models
and passed around pictures of the other two. He described each concept and reported that the
committee voted firstly for Pat Cochran’s piece by a big margin, secondly for Susan Gott’s piece
and Michael McLaughlin’s piece did not get much good reception from the sub-committee’s
members.
Jon also related the initial feedback he has got from some of the City’s commissioners (it will not
be taken to the City Commission until there is a recommendation from this committee). He also
stated he will submit to the City Commission, the sub-committee’s votes backed up with each of
their comments.
There was some discussion on Susan Gott’s type of work and Jon Ward stated she is being
considered for other spaces (possibly indoors).
Jon Ward concluded his presentation stating Pat Cochran will be his recommendation to the City
Commission and requested from this committee they concur.
Marti Reno moved to accept the sub-committee’s decision and endorse Jon Ward’s
recommendation to the City of Fort Pierce City Commission. James Gibson seconded the
motion. All members voted unanimously; motion passed.

AIPP ANNUAL PLAN
Jody referred to the handout that outlines the AiPP projects and gave a brief explanation of the
possible future projects (please refer to handout for details).
Bob Hood pointed out that in regards to the possible Gateway/Welcome to St. Lucie piece
between the I95 and the Turnpike junctions, he thinks there is a site that would be ideal for such
an artwork, in the proximity to the intersection of Jenkins Rd./Okeechobee Rd.
Jody proposed that Bob Hood be the chairperson for that committee, if he accepts and the
committee approves, as he is the committee member most familiar with FDOT requirements.
Bob stated he would be happy to be involved to assist with any issues with FDOT prior to making
any decision on the final selection of a piece.
Jody pointed the portion of the AiPP ordinance that states the 15% of the AiPP funds are to go to
maintenance and 15% towards education, miscellaneous operating expenses, such as plaques,
etc., and pointed out the funds she budgeted, based on this.
There was some discussion about the City of Fort Pierce beginning a Highwaymen project (a
heritage trail) that will have some financial support from the Florida Humanities Council and Jon
Ward stated he expects to build it around the Ave. D Obelisk and that the intention is to make a
substantial project.
Jon Ward moved to accept the AiPP Annual Plan as recommended by staff with the
exception of the funds to be allocated for the Gateway/Welcome piece, which he would like
to increase to a $150,000 budget to make it an appropriate size to the site and for its
intended purpose. Bob Hood seconded the motion. All members voted in favor.
ArtsView (AiPP magazine)
There was some preliminary discussion on the planning of the next issue of ArtView magazine.
The meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m. Next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday,
March 12, 2009 at 3:30 a.m. at the Grants conference room, 2300 Virginia Avenue, Fort
Pierce.
Respectfully submitted,
Suzanne Antonetti
