Minutes
Jack Connolly moved to approve February 2009 minutes; Joe Holiday seconded the
motion. All members voted in favor; motion passed.
Update on ongoing projects:
Staff has requested quotes for concrete pads for the Lakewood Park and Fenn Center pieces; the
current schedule to have those two projects installed is late summer. Caryl has volunteered to
organize the dedication event for Lakewood park.
Highwaymen Obelisk.- After a meeting with the Highwaymen at Lincoln Park Main Street, it was
decided to have the sculpture opening event in November even though the piece is expected to
be completed by September 30. This would provide time for the City to replant the site and for
the winter residents to arrive. Lincoln Park Main Street will be the lead agency organizing the
event, which it is expected to be November 13-15.
Seal Museum has selected the artist for their piece and they are working on preparing the
contract. They’re expecting to have their ceremony on Memorial Day, 2010.
Grounding all AIPP sculptures
Jody stated that while discussing with the artist (David Langley) details on the Lakewood Park
sculpture installation, he said he has grounded all the pieces he has installed to date because of
the high incidence of lightning in Florida.
Jody considered then if it is necessary to do the same thing to protect all the AiPP pieces that
have been installed and asked Jerry Flynn, from central services to consult with an electrician.
Jerry explained at the meeting he was told that it is a very wise measure to ground any sculpture,
because if lightning strikes, it will very likely destroy or cause serious damage the piece and
anyone holding on to the piece.
Jack moved to approve grounding all existing AiPP sculptures and have any future pieces
protected from lighting. Joe seconded the motion. All members voted in favor; motion
passed.
MLK project
Lee Drake and Marti Reno were asked to co-chair for this project and begin the project by
recruiting residents that would like to sit on this sub-committee. It was noted that because there
will be two AiPP committee members in this sub-committee, any meetings held by the sub-
committee will be advertised. T.A. Wyner mentioned regarding this project that a couple of the
maquettes presented for the recent call for artists that did not get selected had very good
reception among the different sub-committee members and maybe they could still be considered
by the MLK project sub-committee members as an option for that space.

Ravenswood Pool Mural at Port St. Lucie
T.A. Wyner stated the sub-committee for this project is formed and she is chairing it. Joe Holiday
stated he had been to the site and the wall, which is about 10’h x 15’w, would need to be
prepared for the artwork and a couple of things attached to it (a drinking fountain and an electric
box) would need to be removed and it is his understanding that Park and Recreation is in the
process on doing so.
Request to City Of Port St. Lucie to partner in organizing WOW3
Jody handed out copy of letter sent to Gregory J. Oravec, Assistant City Manager, requesting the
City of Port St. Lucie to partner in regards of funding towards the organization of the exhibit. Jody
also spoke with him and he informed her he would bring the matter before the City’s CRA to
secure some funding for the program.
Artsview
Committee members discussed some details about the next edition of Artsview magazine.
Counsel clarified that Marti Reno should not participate in the selection of the magazine designer
if Tom Reno (son) is expected to bid for the project, for conflict of interest reasons. Once the
designer is selected, regardless of Tom Reno being selected, Marti Reno is free to contribute
and/or vote on any matter related to the process of putting together the articles and other material
necessary to submit to the designer to complete the edition.
Members discussed the cost of design and sending the edition to a printer. It was stated that if
the magazine’s design will go out for bid the current design should not be presented as an
example, as every designer that submits their work for consideration should be their original
creation. If the committee decides to check for other designs and it is foreseen that the quotes
will come for $5000 or more, they would have to ask for at least 3 quotes and decide for the
lowest, most cost effective one. The cost of printing is considered separately and should also
require 3 quotes. The designer does supervise somewhat the final product and ensures that the
result looks as envisioned.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 p.m. Next regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June
11, 2009 at 3:30 a.m. at the Grants conference room, 2300 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce.
Respectfully submitted,
Suzanne Antonetti
