The meeting of the Property and Homeowners Association meeting was held Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in Conference Room 3 of the St. Lucie County Administration Annex Building, 2300 Virginia Avenue, Fort Pierce, Florida 34982. Members Present: Toni Trabolsi, Coalition of Sandpiper Bay Associations Bill Hammer, Reserve/PGA HOA Bob Bangert, Holiday Pines POA Roger Bollman, Indian River Estates Association Linda Bollman, Indian River Estates Association Linda Schmitz, Portofino Shores POA Henry Schmitz, Portofino Shores POA Laura Jones, Nettles Island POA Tony Roach, Lake Forest Pointe HOA Also Present: Commissioner Paula A. Harris, St. Lucie County Health Department Deputy Lee Davis, St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office Mark Boston, FLARA Tangie Jennings, Representative Steve Perman Sherry McCorkle, Congressman Tom Rooney ITEM #1 -CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m. Commissioner Lewis led the Association in the Pledge of Allegiance followed by self-introductions from the Association representatives and public attendees. ITEM #2 -APPROVAL OF MINUTES Bob Bangert made the motion to approve the minutes of April13, 2011. Roger Bollman seconded the motion and the minutes passed unanimously by voice vote. ITEM #3 - ST. LUCIE COUNTY FIRE DISTRICT REPORT No report was available at this time. ITEM #4 -GUEST Charlotte Lombard - St. Lucie County Tourism Manager Ms. Lombard gave an overview of what is currently happening in the Tourism Department. She stated that this week was National Travel and Tourism Week and that the County presented a Proclamation identifying and proclaiming Tourism Week in St. Lucie County. The purpose of Tourism Week is to educate residents, elected officials, etc. about the value and importance of tourism; and encourage local residents to learn more about what there is to do in St. Lucie County and ultimately become ambassadors of tourism. Several events will be going on throughout the week. (See brochures) Tourism is up 20% due to these contributing factors: Weather, renovation of Club Med, New York Mets, and the economy is doing better. The Tourism Development Council partners with Treasure Coast Sports Commission, PGA Village, etc., and does cooperative advertising with other agencies and businesses in the county. Geographical marketing is also used and targets Northeast areas, Canada, Europe and in the summertime, the State of Florida. More discussion was pursued, and information packets were passed out. Donna Harris - St. Lucie County Health DepartmentlH.A.N.D.S Kris Kruger- Mustard Seed Ministries, Inc./H.A.N.D.S. Ms. Harris introduced herself then explained the program(s) in her presentation. She is one of the grant writers for H.A.N.D.S. Clinic which consists. of approximately 30 volunteers workers. They are open six days a week and is income based serviced. The programs being presented are educational programs, and are a joint effort of H.A.N.D.S., Mustard Seed Ministries and St. Lucie County Health Department. • Introduction to Diabetes (1 - 1 '/ hours) • Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (2'/z hours) Instructors will come to your home, Homeowners, Property Owners, Condo Associations, Church Groups or Civic Organizations and give classes. An ideal number for a class is 12 - 20 people. Ms. Kruger stated that she has Type II Diabetes. She said that in giving classes, she found out diabetics are not testing as regularly as .they should to keep up with the numbers. Test strips and meters are offered as needed. (1 - 1 '/2 month supply of strips given) Ms. Harris stated that the classes are offered to anyone who wants to attend, and is not restricted to those who are without insurance. There was discussion in reference to signs seen around the county asking that used strips be turned in. Ms. Harris said they will track it down and find out what is going on. ITEM #5 - ST. LUCIE COUNTY SHERIIFF'S REPORT Deputy Lee Davis gave an update on criminal activities in the county • Major crime is down • Put valuables away before going to the beach • Identity Theft is the #1 crime of the world •Neighborhood .Watch - Call Deputy Davis at 871-5303 about setting up a Neighborhood Crime Watch in your community, or if you have any other questions. • Observation Control does house checks when a family is away from home. Your home is checked once a week for as long as you are gone. Deputy Davis announced that the Annual Memorial Service and 911 Tribute (combined this year) for fallen officers will be held 7:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in St. Lucie West. ITEM #6 -OLD BUSINESS No items for discussion. ITEM #7 -NEW BUSINESS It was agreed to invite Representative Steve Perman to speak at the June meeting to speak on SB 530 ad HB 1195, as well as other issues pertaining to St. Lucie County. A request was made in reference to obtaining State District and Congressional Maps. Tangie Jennings from Representative Perman's office stated she will have them available at the next meeting. 3 ITEM #8 -ADJOURNMENT Having no further business for discuss, Commissioner Lewis thanked the group and each speaker for their participation and attendance.
