POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Executive Director
Arts & Cultural Alliance of St. Lucie, Inc.
NEW DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: JULY 18, 2011
STATUS: Full Time, Exempt
SALARY: $55,000 - $80,000 Annually, depending on qualifications
Summary
The Arts & Cultural Alliance of St. Lucie, Inc. (Alliance) is a nonprofit arts organization formed in 2009 and is
the designated Local Arts Agency for St. Lucie County, Florida. The Executive Director is responsible for all
activities of the Alliance, consistent with the direction of the Board of Directors and approved Strategic Plan
(attached) and in compliance with all contracts, grant agreements and other legally binding documents, laws and
regulations. Supervises all staff members and reports to the Board of Directors.
Position Description
A. Advocacy
1. Act as spokesperson for the Alliance and its members.
2. Develop community relations program and train Alliance members on message and advocacy.
3. Represent the Alliance with the general public, state, federal and local agency officials and staff
4. Keep the Alliance Board and its members informed ofarts-related opportunities and issues.
5. Advocate on behalf of the Alliance and its members for local, state, private and national funding and on
arts and cultural needs and issues.
B. Development and Fundraising
1. Develop and update an effective fundraising plan, consistent with best practices and direction of the
Board of Directors.
2. Implement the fundraising plan, which may include events, memberships, sponsorships, partnerships,
grant writing and other special campaigns.
3. Develop and maintain strong positive relationships with fenders and donors.
4. Recruit and retain members, donors, fenders and other supporters of the Alliance.
5. Establish criteria and procedures for re-granting of Alliance funding to arts and cultural organizations.
C. Strategic and Community Planning
1. Implement and monitor progress toward implementing and achieving the Alliance strategic plan.
2. Represent the Alliance by participating on various community-based boards, committees and planning
groups as appropriate.
3. Provide technical assistance and/or other needed training to local artists, arts organizations, schools and
educators.
4. Provide leadership and support services member artists and educational and cultural organizations and
facilitate collaborations and partnerships that enhance the arts and cultural opportunities in St. Lucie
County.
C. Organizational and Financial Management
1. Develop internal procedures related to fiscal and organizational management.
2. Oversee implementation of all programs and services to ensure strategic plan goals are being met.
3. Develop annual budget for approval by the Board of Directors.
4. Facilitate accurate financial record keeping and annual review or audit of financial records.
5. Secure the legal standing of the corporation through accurate and timely reporting to the Internal
Revenue Service, Secretary of State and any other legal entities deemed necessary.
6. Monitor implementation of all contracts and grant agreements to ensure the Alliance is meeting required
goals and objectives.
7. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of information and data required by contracts and grant
agreements.
8. Manage all regular, temporary or contract staff.
9. Plan and implement Board of Directors and staff development training, including orientation for new
directors and employees.
10. Maintain Alliance membership roster, dues status and ensure regular communication with members
through recognitions; meetings, publications and other appropriate means.
Perform other related duties as directed by the Board of Directors.
Applicant Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in fine arts, arts management or public/ nonprofit administration preferred. Other
degrees may be considered if significant experience in nonprofit management and fundraising for a
general arts organization is demonstrated.
2. Minimum of three years experience at an executive level in nonprofit management or fundraising,
preferably with a general arts organization. Knowledge of fine arts, art history, or related areas a plus.
3. Evidence of a successful and diverse fundraising track record.
4. Strong oral and written communication skills required. Finalists may be asked to provide an oral
presentation and prepare a writing sample.
5. Intermediate to advanced computer skills required. Valid driver's license required. .
6. Selected applicant will be required to pass a background screening, including verification of education
and experience and criminal records and driver's license check.
