The City of Fort Pierce and St. Lucie County has accepted the report during their respective Board meetings in July. Committee members discussed and agreed it is time to move forward to the next Phase (Phase 2) for the Port Master Plan update. Attendees tossed around ideas and discussed some thoughts they have for the next Phase. Discussed began on dredging the Inlet Channel. Ken Roberts, of Indian River Terminal brought some depth charts and information concerning the need for dredging. Indian River Terminal has lost business recently due to the inability of large ships being able to pass through the channel because of the depth. Members ask Jeff Weidner if the FDOT would be able to help with an emergency dredging permit. Jeff said he heard about this and has his folks working on it already. Discussion on who is responsible for Corps permits, Don West informed members that the Inlet maintenance permit is on a Federal Level, the Corps handles their own permits. For the maintenance dredging the FDEP is involved. The County could apply for the permit on the corps behalf and the cost could be between $300,000 and $500,000 and might take as long as 3 to 4 years. The maintenance permits lapsed in 2003. In the past few years the County has been lobbing the Corps to open or re -new the permit. Ken Robert asked if they could spot dredge the Inlet Channel due to the emergent nature of the situation. Jeff Weidner offered to do a letter to Jim Wolfe, FDOT, to see if they can help to get a permit for emergency spot dredging from the Army Corps of Engineers. Members would like to discuss this again under old business at the next meeting for an update. Buzz Smyth addressed member asking them to write a letter to the Board of County Commissioners concerning marking a worm reef that is a safety issue. Chairman Benton suggested the FDEP also should be notified. Chairman Benton made a motion, Brad Currie second, all agreed that a letter should go to the Board of County Commissioner and the FDEP for help with marking the worm reef. ADJOURNMENTS At 4:30 p.m. the meeting was adjourned. The next scheduled meeting to be held is Wednesday August 15t" 2012 at 3:00 pm, in the 3rd Floor Conference Room.
