Public fafe~y Coordinating Council Auguft 30, Z0f2 Page 2 UPDATE by fLC fherriff'f Offiee-Trevor MorganEi on behalf of fheriff Mafcara~ Trevor Morganti reported the inmate population at 1239 with 23% mentally ill and the female population was up by approximately 15 percent. He also announced the Drug Abuse Summit of the Treasure Coast. The Summit is free and open to the public and is set to be held on Friday, September 28, 2012. Commissioner Mowery asked about any issues regarding Tropical Storm Isaac and Chief Wilson reported, they had their challenges throughout that night and some early Tuesday morning but got through it. UPDATE by Criminal JufEiee Coordinator- Mark Godwin: Mark Godwin discussed the Monthly Average Daily Population Report. Due to questions that arose last month regarding the statistics, Mark gave a short presentation and demonstrated how to navigate on a website that provides this type of data. Please see the attached handout on the St. Lucie County Criminal Justice Web Site. There is a public side with data from the Sheriff's office and the Clerk's office. There is also a private side with data for multiple programs, such as Mental Health Court and the Drug Lab. Mr. Godwin announced that he will have a table set up at the Drug Abuse Summit to promote the St. Lucie County Drug Screening Labs. The Fort Pierce Lab is now in a new larger space within the courthouse and is fully operational after months of preparation. The Lab out in Okeechobee is also doing well. Mr. Godwin estimated that the Pretrial Program has about one hundred to one hundred and fifty cases. There is an emergency plan in place in the event of a Hurricane or Tropical Storm that was experienced earlier in the week. JUDICIAL UPDAiE~ Chief Judge Levin announced the new Judicial Assignments (please see attached). He spoke of visiting a Veterans Court in Palm Beach County and the possibility of having one here. The group had a brief discussion on the topic and exchanged some ideas of some form of services if a Veterans Court was not feasible in this county. OLD BUfINEff~ None NEW BBfINEff~ Diamond announced a Life Builders of the Treasure Coast, Second Annual Golf Tournament at the Legacy Golf and Tennis Club located at 9000 Clubhouse Drive in Port St. Lucie. Public fafely CoordinaFing Council Auguf! 30, 2012 Page 3 The event is a two part one, on Friday, October 5t" a cocktail party will be held at the same location in the Fazio Club and Saturday, October 6t" is the golf tournament. Commissioner Mowery announced Safe Space's 2012: Walk a Mile in her Shoes, it is to raise awareness and help those affected by domestic violence and it will be held on Saturday, October 13t" in Tradition, Port St. Lucie. Justine Patterson announced that the Town Hall Meeting with Kenneth Tucker, Secretary for the Department of Corrections was canceled due to Tropical Storm Isaac. She wanted to personally thank Chief Judge Levin and Sheriff Mascara for agreeing to be speakers. Ms. Patterson said at this point it has not been rescheduled, but hoped that when it is Chief Judge Levin and Sheriff Mascara will be available.
