The motion passed A. Maintenance oftlje Armed Occupation Act Coquina Rock Fireplace Chairman Hayek~,dalled for="discussion of the Coquina Rock Fireplace located at 4111 S Indian River Drive.` At the last meeting fhe Historical Commission members instructed Leslie Olson, Planning Manager to draft a letter for signature in order to follow up with the property owner regarding maintaining the area around the fireplace. Ms. Olson drafted the letter for signature; however, prior to the letter being signed and sent out, Mr. Jeffrey W. Stanley, the property owner contacted Mr. Hayek via email regarding the Commission's past offer to help maintain the site. The owner also informed Mr. Hayek that Ms. Lucille Rights with the St. Lucie County Regional History Center (formally known as the St. Lucie County Historical Museum) contacted him to see if she could remove the fireplace from his property; because, she felt that it would not survive in its current condition and would be better served in the History museum. However, the property owner was vehemently against the removal of the 2013-04-17 Page 1 of 3 1 fireplace. Instead, he preferred that the Historical Commission members come to assist his 2 lawn maintenance personnel in the cleanup and preservation of the site until he was able to 3 oversee the maintenance himself. 4 5 Further discussion ensued, which lead the Commission members to request that Ms. Olson 6 respond to Mr. Stanley's email and coordinate a date for members of the Commission to go 7 out and assist in the maintenance of the site. The board would also like to keep Ms. Rights 8 informed about their efforts and the condition of the fireplace. 9 10 B. White City Historic District 11 ~` 12 Mr. Heffelfinger updated the Commission on his meeting with ttie White City Improvement 13 Club (WCIC) Board of Directors. He felt that the WCIC~oard of directors would be 14 amenable to the idea of establishing a historic district absent of pY p~ y restrictions. 15 ~~~ a 16 Further discussion ensued on how the Commission ember"s might mtr'oc~uce the idea of a 17 portion of White City becoming a historic districl,~to'the stakeholders m White City. The 18 following was suggested: ; ` ~ ~'~ 20 The use of brochures explaining the benefits of a;ht~onc`distnct 21 Surveying the residents of White City in order€toS~et their position on creating a 22 historic district and to identify tithe possible bouridar~es of the district. The workshop was on historic preservation and the 43 advantages of becoming a Certified Local Government (CLG).
