NEW BUIIINEffs A presentation was given to the Committee by James Oppenborn, St. Lucie
County's Coastal Resources Supervisor, (aka "just the Fish Guy"') concerning Wesley Island. Mr.
Oppenborn also invited Mr. Mark McGee from Indian River Solutions, Mr. Mark Music from
Empire Environmental, and Ms. Sue Deblois from the St. Lucie County Schools to attend and
help with information for the presentation. The reason for the presentation was to give
information, and ask the Committee for a letter to present to the Board of County
Commissioner to have Wesley's Island become an Educational opportunity/teaching/learning
center for St. Lucie County.

Members discussed the possibility of this and agreed that a letter be written. Mayor Hudson
made the motion to approve the letter, Warren Falls second the motion. Mary Chapman
offered to do a draft letter for the Committee and to bring it to a meeting in the future as it is
not time sensitive.
OLD BUSINESS* Don West, Public Worlts/Port Director for St. Lucie County gave an update
on grant funding for the 2nd Street Improvements. The Committee asked Mr. West to see if
grant funding could be used for Utilities, however, after researching it, he found out the State
does not fund for Utilities. Mr. West did tell the members that the grant funding can be used
for other areas for improvements. Stormwater pond sites are one of those areas. The pond
site to the North of 2nd Street will be increased in size due to the space shortage in the area.
The City is wonting with the County on this project, and the total project is expected to cost
approximately $7 million.
Mr. West reminded members of the Joint Meeting for the Port Master Plan presentation on
August 29th in the Board of County Commission Chambers. The Board of County
Commissioners and the Board of City Commissioners are to meet at 2:00 p.m., and be given a
draft presentation by Jeff Weidner, Florida Department of Transportation and Tom McGowan,
AECOM concerning the Port Master Plan.
Mr. West also gave the Committee Members some information on the Inlet dredging.
