Mr. Hatcher wil) be tal<ing the place of current executive director Tom Colucci, who will be retiring after 16 years with the organization. Tom has been the executive director organization since its inception in 1999. Hatcher is a seasoned professional with 20 years of experience in the Sports Tourism and Event Management Industry. His bacl<ground includes Business Development Director for PSA Sports, Executive Director of two Sport Commissions in Lexington, KY and Tallahassee, FL, and Sports Marl<etplace Coordinator for Connect Sports with Collinson Media and Events. Hatcher has been elected to serve on several sports tourism and event management industry Boards. The National Association of Sports Commission (NASC), National Congress of State Games and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Florida Sports Foundation and re-elected for another board term with the NASC. While serving his first term on the NASC Board of Directors, he was elected to the Executive Committee (3 year term) and then elected as the Chairman for a 1-year term. Prior to his related worl< in the Sports Tourism and Event Management Industry, Hatcher served as the pitching coach at University of Tennessee, Georgia Tech and the University of South Carolina. While coaching at Georgia Tech in 1994, the Yellow Jackets finished runner-up in the College World Series in Omaha, NE, losing to the University of Oklahoma. Hatcher graduated from Florida State University with a B.S. degree in Education. While attending FSU, he played on the Seminole baseball team and played in the 1980 College World Series. At the conclusion of his collegiate career in 1981, he signed as a non-drafted free agent with the Atlanta Braves and played in their minor league system for three years. Rick Hatcher is married to Cheryl Hatcher, who is also in the tourism industry and worl<s for Visit Florida, and together they have four children and two grandchildren. These events provide tremendous exposure opportunities for Indian River County, St. Lucie County and Martin County and are a proven economic driver for the businesses in the Treasure Coast region. The Treasure Coast Sports Cominission is a member of the National Association of Sports Cominissions (NASC) and the Florida Sports Foundation. General Overview. . . . . . . . .. The pursuit of amateur and professional sporting events has become big business for tourist and economic development councils, both around the State of Florida and in the United States. The growth of sports commissions in the United States has grown to over 650 organizations; testifies to the tremendous benefits to be gained fi•om efforts dedicated to the pursuit of event hosting. Sports, its economic social benefits have a multi-faceted appeal. From the hospitality industry viewpoint, the large number of visitors associated with spoi~ts events is a"natural" source of room night production. With amateur athletic activity pealcing during the n•aditionally slow summer months, sporting events, especially those involving youth, are a natural fit for bolstering countywide visitation and revenue during the off-peak periods. From a community perspective, athletics is a powerful vehicle through which to promote civic pride, health and vitaliry, sportsmanship, anti-drug programs and numerous other worthwhile social messages. Tlvough extensive youth directed programming, the TCSC will be equally dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for youth in the Treasure Coast region. The Treasure Coast region has the resources and infi•astructure/facilities which include: air and land access, n•ansportation, climate, lodging, municipal and county services, professional sports clubs and athletes, etc. to compete on any level with any major destination or program in the country. i/I/!1)111~\\~ ~ l~~lf(!/l/~; ~~ .,w~~ .. .. 1 si,'%~. • ~ ' 6 • O O Treasure Life • Treaeure Sports ~ Treasure Coast Scope of Work of the Treasure Coast Sports Commission Recruitment of Events The Sports Commission works locally, regionally, nationally and internationally with event organizers, rights holders and event owners in the recruitment and placement of events, which utilize venues and facilities in the Treasure Coast region. We can assist in the areas of site/facilities selection, budget development and development of local organizing committees. Venue Overview The Sports Commission team maintains excellent relations with sports facility management, hotels and resorts, and ineeting facilities. We can provide a significant head start and substantially increase the odds of a successful event experience by assisting the event owner with identification, cooperation and coordination with facilities. Support Services The Sports Commission is well positioned to provide events with a broad range of valuable support services, including: volunteers, trarispoi~tation logistics, advance planning with emergency medical services (EMS), application for and securing of pennits, and assistance with event security and local law enforcement coordination. Public Relations and Communications The Sports Commission can assist with media coordination and relations, press conferences, and farmal presentatio~ns in addition; the TCSC can facilitate and foster open and fluid communication among all parties involved in sports and sports-related activities. Government Relations The Sports Commission can act as the liaison with city, county and state officials, and local agencies and also act as the clearinghouse of infoimation on government regulations, protocol and potential funding opportunities. Marketing The Sports Commission has extensive expertise in the areas of event sponsorship and cause-related sports marketing. We can also assist you with event naming and rights negotiation, proposal and bid preparation, and formal presentations.
