SUBJECT: Change in Roof Covering (Shingles to Metal Panels)
ADDRESS: SZLYK Residence/ 1077 Nettles Blvd., Jensen Beach, FL 34957
CONTRACTOR: Code Red Roofers
Dear Sir:
The roof covering of subject residence is proposed to be changed from asphalt shingles
to 5V crimp metal panels. The purpose of this letter is to determine wind uplift forces
and specify fastening pattern of new plywood sheathing and metal roof panels.
The subject property is located in Exposure D area. The roof has 5/12 slope and mean
roof height is 15 ft. As per 2010 Florida Bldg. Code; ASCE 7-10, 165 mph ultimate wind
speed for Risk Category II in Exposure D area, using Wind Load Factor of 0.6 for ASD
the wind pressures are determined as follows:
Field Pi = -40 psf / Perimeter (4' wide) P2 = -70 psf / Corner (4'x4') P3 = -104 psf.
The installation of new roof panels consists of ASTM D 226 Type II, 30-lbs felt fastened
by using 11 ga 11/4' ring-shanked nails spaced at 6" o.c. along seams and 12" o.c.
staggered two rows .in field and 4" o.c. in 5'-wide gable-end and 4'-wide, perimeter and
corner zones.
As per Sunlast Metal, 26 Ga., 24" wide 5V crimp Roof Panels on Wood Decks
(#FL10490.6 R3, pg. 7/7); the design pressures of -50.5 psf is achieved that specified by
fastening the panels using #10-11/2" long hex-head screws with WSW washers spaced
at 12" o.c. (see Method 1). In perimeter and corner zones, the max. uplift resistance of-
106.75 psf is achieved by using #10-11/2" long hex-head screws spaced at 8" o.c.
(Method 2).
As per Method 1; the 5V metal panels in field (P1) zones will be fastened at 12" o.c.
along and across the panels. As per Method 2 the panels in perimeter (P2) and corner
zones (P3) are required to be secured at 8" o.c. row spacing and 12" o.c. across the
panels (see attached pg. 7/7).
Therefore, this letter is to certify that Sunlast Metal, 26 Ga., 24" wide 5V crimp Roof
Panels on Wood Decks (#F.L10490.6 R3), installed as stated above, conform to
requirements of 2010 Florida Building Code, which specifies 165 MPH ultimate wind
velocity for Risk Category II in Exposure D area.
