TAS 100(A)-95 Equivalency Evaluation Reference 2.a tested for wind and wind-driven rain resistance in accordance with TAS-100(A)-95,Test Procedurefor Wind and Wind Driven Rain Resistance and/or Increased Windspeed Resistance of Soffit Ventilation Strip and Continuous or intermittent Ventilation System Installed at the Ridge Area. o Testing to the above procedure documented in Reference 2.a is based on conformance to the 2007 FBC—Test Protocols with 2009 Supplements. o The 2010 FBC—Test Protocols,TAS 100(A)-95 revised Section 10.4.8 to remove reference to TAS 100(8)which does not exist and requires the user to contact the authority having jurisdiction when testing product for increased windspeed resistance that exceed a height of 12 inches or any other dimension of 18 inches. The product covered by Evaluation Report No.1938 (Ref.3.a)exceeded those limitations.Miami- Dade Product Control was contacted and advised that Checklist No.0463 shall be used.In conformance with this checklist,a uniform static air pressure test in accordance with TAS 202-94 was conducted. wool"NEWWRIONW. Because the requirements of the revised TAS 100(A)-95 were followed and because the changes to TAS 100(A)-95 do not affect testing method or results, conformance to the 2010 FBC is maintained. v CONCLUSION:Testing and documented results in Reference 2.a are compliant with the 2010 FBC— Building Volume, Residential Volume and Test Protocols. Reference 2.b tested uniform static air pressure in accordance with TAS-202-94, Criteria for,Testing Impact& ftnimpact Resistant Building Envelope Components Using Uniform Static Air Pressure v Testing to the above procedure documented in Reference 2.b is based on conformance to the 2007 FBC—Test Protocols with 2009 Supplements. > The 2010 FBC—Test Protocols,TAS 202-SA revised Sections 1.1 and 5.2.2.2 related to calculation, of design pressure using ASCE7-10.Section 5.2.7 was revised to remove revision level from ASTM E283 and Section 13.2.1 revised interval labeling on storm panels. These changes do not affect the testing method or results obtained. o CONCLUSION:Testing and documented results in Reference 2.b are compliant with the 2010 FBC— Building Volume,Residential Volume and Test Protocols. :rC Product Design Group, LLC Project No.411-1003 Page 3 oa Box 520775 Report No.1939,Rev.0 L on .,7ood,FL 32752-0775 2010 FBC Equivalency Phone:321-690-1798 Fax:321-690-1789 FBPE Certification of Authorization No.25935 IMPORTANT: Before Onstaffing Please take the time to read through the ENTIRE instructions prior to starting any work. 1. Aluminum Flashing 11 12— gnstallgation Pointers When determining location of the unit, try to place the solar attic fan on the south side of the roof, also consider potential problems such as objects shading the unit during certain times of the day.The unit should also be centered on the roof and the center of the unit should be about 2 feet down from the roof ridge. Step T Choose location for solar vent unit, south exposure is best. If a Southern ex- posure is not feasible for your installation, the fan can be installed on any 7, other exposure and the solar panel adjusted to capture maximum sunlight. Step 2 Hammer a nail at the center of the location chosen between rafters for the solar attic fan unit. The center of the unit should be about 2 feet down from the ridge.Attach a string to the nail. Measure 9.5"of string and attach a marking pen to the string, see diagram. Scribe a 19"circle onto the roof shingles or use the template created earlier- Step 3 With a reciprocating saw, cut the diameter of the hole. IMPORTANT- The solar attic fan must be installed between the roof rafters or over a roof rafter. DO NOT CUT THROUGH ANY FRAMING MEMBER. Step 4 16"ON CENTER INSTALL Roof rafters are generally 16" or 24" on center. On 16" on center construction, the installer can either cut a 14" hole between the rafters or cut a 19" hole with the roof rafter running through the cut hole - do not cut the rafter(see diagram). On 24"on center construction, center the fan between the rafters. NEVER CUT THROUGH ANY ROOF RAFTERS. LEAVE ALL FRAMING MEMBERS IN PLACE. Only remove roof sheathing. Step 5 With a razor knife, cut a four inch slit through the shingles and tar paper at the three and nine o'clock position of the flashing. This allows for the foot print of the flashing to be inserted under the shingles. NOTE: If a 14" hole was cut instead of a 19" hole in Step 3, additional shingles may also need to be removed on the high Side towards the ridge to allow the flashing to slide over the hole (see inset Illustration). Step 6 Insert the reciprocating saw blade sideways at the three o'clock position and commence cutting the roofing nails up and around to the nine o'clock position. This process removes the nails that will prevent the a flashing foot print from sliding up underneath the shingles. x a l Shap 7 Caulk underside of flashingwith the provided caulking material. Two p 9 concentric rings9 of caulking material is sufficient. g • o ,.', NOTE: Installation on tile roofs will require the use of a skirt. ;i;1 o Oo ° Step PO Taking care not to smear caulk on the exposed shingles, slide flashing under tar paper and shingles and force flashing up until the shingles come in contact with the raised portion of the flashing. The bottom side of the o flashing will be on top of the shingles. Secure flashing with four Phillips ,., ; head screws at the 3:00, 6:00, 9:00 and 12:00 positions. The 3:00 and OROMH 9:00 positions screws should go under the shingles. The 6:00 and 12:00IMEMI EE position screws should go on top of the shingles. WOMMMIM Step 9 At the 6:00 and 12:00 positions, caulk over the screw head, since it will be i exposed to the weather. Use remaining caulk to seal the areas where the 4" slits were made and around the area where the shingles meet with the raised area of the flashing. Step 10 Loosen, but do not remove, the screw on the clip/screw assembly located on each side of the solar panel bracket. Adjust the solar panel to the position it will collect the most sunlight throughout the day.Tighten screws at the desired position. . •/fir r i .
