Summary
George Landry opened the meeting with introductions and the minutes were unanimously
approved from the March 22, 2016 meeting.
Dr. Nicosia secured a vendor to perform stress tests at the jail as a possible solution to the delay
at Lawnwood and Martin Memorial not conducting them over the weekend. The vendor would
have to contract with Corizon in order to utilize their services. Currently Corizon can contract to
have the test performed off -site. Captain Lawhorn expressed concern with Lawnwood's
unwillingness to release the inmate to the jail for a stress test. Dr. Nicosia suggested that other
doctors be informed that this option is available. (should it come to fruition).
Captain Lawhorn provided his update stating that hospital details are relatively low numbers
this year compared to last year. Refusals at the back door of the jail are significantly lower and
there were only about six in April. He concluded, there have been improvements made with
the protocol and Corizon as well.
Mr. Landry went over medical staffing questions with Corizon as it relates the type of medical
staff from RN's to Doctor's and the coverage schedule. The doctor is there five days a week
during the day shift, if needed outside of that, the doctor is on call to come back on site. The
process in notifying Dr. Shariff when an inmate is sent to Lawnwood was also discussed. George
went over some data he reviews from Corizon, and asked if prior to booking vs those who are
currently incarcerated can be broken out and highlighted.
Chief judge Metzger was glad to hear about the improved communication among the team.
She reiterated what she had mentioned in regards to any issues with a medical case that the
PD's and the 5A's talk and make a proposal to the judge if a situation arose.
George said that he will compile some thoughts and questions for Lawnwood and asked the
team to do the same. He also encouraged Corizon and the 50 to keep looking for ways to
improve the process when it comes to inmate medical care.
