Dear Mr. Laprade:
Please know I personally completed the wind load analysis for the single hung window,the (2)mullions and the
sliding glass door,NOA's, 15-0519.05; 16-0218.03; 15-1210.01 respectfully by PGT Industries, all Impact
rated vinyl.
The glass type can be Type 6, 7 or 8 for the windows and Type 1, 3 or 5 for the SGD with a min. sill height of
3.5" and to be per Table B1 on the NOA. The 1"x2.75"x0.375"minimum, alum. mullion to have a standard clip
with(4) '/4"tapcons, minimum 1.5"embedment in to concrete of filled CMU, top and bottom.
Using the ASCE?-10. The following parameters were used:
Windows & Sliding Glass Doors height is less than 12 feet;
Exposure D; Wind speed 170 mph; Enclosed Structure, wind zones 4 and 5;
When taking into account the external and internal pressure coefficients and adjustments per the ASCE?-10, the
resulting and governing applied wind pressure comes to+49.3 psf/-54.1 psf for the governing Zone 5.
With the tapcon type, spacing, edge distances and embedment and window& door installation completed per
each respective NOA,the allowable loads of+65/-70psf for the windows; +/-58.3psf for the mullions and+/-
60psf for the SGDs exceed the applied loads in these applications, and is acceptable to my office.
It is recommended that all fasteners be of high quality stainless steel.
