PUBLIC HEARING:
Petition of Cliff and Jane Beckett.for a change in zoning from A-1
(agricultural) to R-4A (multiple dwellings) for property located on the
east side of Lenna~d Road, directt:y-north of Port St. Lucie City limits.
Mr. Beckett first appeared before the Board and said there are three
day care centers in Port St. Lucie and they are all full. There is a
real need for a day care center in this location.
sa'd
Mrs. Beckett~t~e closest day. care center to them is seven miles
away, they have lots of room for a day care center, she has h'ad three
years experience in pre-school and is presently teaching.
Mr. William Johnson appeared in opposition to the petition. He
said he had applied for a rezoning and was told to annex to Port St.
Lucie. He also said Lennard Road is not paved and he does not think
it should be rezoned.
Mr. Tiernan said he didn't know what this had to do with the re-
zoning in question at this time.
Mr. Carman asked Mr. Ament what is limit on R-4A zoning.
Mr. Ament said R-4A was the most restrictive zoning the County
has that would permit a.day care center. He also said Lennard Road
is slated to be paved and the Becketts have discussed annexation .to
Port St. Lucie and they do not want to be annexed.
Mrs. Beckett stated that they had met with Pt. St. Lucie officials
and had told them they did not want to be annexed.
A motion was made by Mr. Skeffington and seconded by Mr. Scott to
approve the petition as requested. The motion was approved unanimously.
The petition will be recommended ~o the County Commission for
approval.

Dear Mr. Sz%myog:
Subject petition was considered at our Board meeting June 22, 1982 and consid-
eration was given to your letter dated May I9, 1982.
The Beckett s ~%~hat they had met with Port St. Lucie officials and had
told them that they did not want to be annexed. Since annexation is not
mandatory and the zoning was consistent with future land use plans for the
area, rezoning was approved.
