Mr. John Foster of the Betham Group appeared to represent Mr. and Mrs. Gates. Mr. Foster stated the purpose of this request is to bring parcel in conformance with the St. Lucie County Growth Management Plan on ocean front area, to maintain existing zoning on island parcel and to allow clustering of units in Bonita Isles. Mrs. Mable Foscett spoke in opposition to the petition. She wanted to know the adjacent property owners had any objections to the rezoning. Mr. Foster said one property owner approved and he had not been able to contact others, however, as the County Zoning office had sent letters and had not received response, he would assume they had no objections. Mr. Davis asked if property owners could still build single family residences if the zoning is approved. Mr.-A merit said yes they can. Mr. Carman wanted to know the difference between this request and the previous request, which was denied. Mr. Ament said this request is for fewer units than first requested. Mr.. Ament's comments on this petition are as follows: GATES (R-~E zud R-lA to R-4C) Exis~52'~g Imnfl Us~: Primarily l~fltLLre ~nd Use: Medium D=~sity Residential C~m~nts: A previous rezoning requ~ est for ~ larger area T. bsn ~he current rezoDing requ~ est w~s denied by the Oounty Cun~i.~sion on November S, 19El, bemuse The max~mmzn allowable growth residentisl d=~usity ~ould h~ve exoeeded that currently permitted by exS.~ting zoning. The pro.oozed rezoning is consistent with land u~e rec~u~ndalions of the Gr~.~h ~&anag~r~nt Policy Plan. Motion was made by Mr. Tiernan to approve the petition and seconded by Mr.~Skeffington. The voting was as follows: Yes: Davis, King, Scott, Skeffington and Tiernan. No: Carman. The Board will recommend the petition to the County Commission for approval. Current zoning would allow a m~xim~n of 203 dwelling units to be built. The GMPP recommen~ a ,~xim~ of 217 d~lling units. The proposed rezoning would result in a maxiu~n of 178 dwelling units. All of the above figures are based upon acreages .set forth in a survey by Gerald Weatherington (~ay 22, 1981).
